My development of MEDT7454_Teaching_Library_Programming_Unit demonstrates my understanding of SLEI standard 1, including a space day activity to be used at an elementary school level. Within this lesson, I included a selection of books that included boys and girls and animals, which I felt would be interesting for the age group. In the interest of state curriculum standards for SLEI standard 1, a broad Georgia Standards of Excellence for K-5 science was utilized, and an effort to include the differing ages was made to include all students, regardless of age. To address the effective strategies component of the SLEI standard, I included a compilation of space videos, All about space! I use Wakelet, which I feel is both informative and engaging. In revisiting this lesson, I think I established a credible understanding of SLEI standard 1, using various resources and activities to fulfill the aspect of being a collaborative partner with educators. I feel that the collaboration between the school librarian and teachers is at the forefront of exceptional learning opportunities for students, as the shared interest of student achievement can be fulfilled by utilizing the different backgrounds and resources both professionals bring to the lessons.

In my exercise MEDT7452_Reference_Evaluation, I contacted a variety of different academic librarians with a list of pre-written questions to gain insight into the appropriate behaviors and methods that professional Librarians engage with patrons for the intention of gaining knowledge in different subject areas. From this assignment, I gained an understanding of the professional conduct a professional Librarian should exhibit when interacting with the public. In my transactions with the different Librarians, it was evident to me that there is a consistency of professionalism that exists with professional Librarians, and that they provided me with the correct information regarding my questions, and a courtesy I had hoped would be present. From these interactions, I realized that a professional librarian must be knowledgeable in various subjects, from literature to geography, etc., and that professionalism is paramount. As shown in the interactions with the different Librarians, a stable curriculum is necessary to perform their duties.
