Professionalism
In my completed assignment, MEDT 7451 Information Ethics Infographic, I demonstrated understanding of SLEI standard nine and explained the ethical implications of the Patriot Act concerning parents and students. As SLEI standard 9 points out, the necessity for Librarians to engage in continuous professional learning is paramount, and an ethical assessment of current laws for appropriate students maintains the integrity of the profession by encouraging debate where possible ethical implications may exist in the academic field. In utilizing the Patriot Act as a debate point, the continued development of students' understanding of ethics was established, thus creating a thought experiment concerned with measuring the possible negative implications of such a law. In the interest of engaging in continuous professional learning, considering possible ethical consequences from such an assignment benefits student development and maturity. Using a topic such as the Patriot Act for student debate demonstrates the understanding of moral considerations in light of possible negative implications. In addition to this, my involvement with the Georgia Library Media Association keeps me informed on the latest trends concerning library happenings and events, further developing my professional relationships.
Communication
In my contribution to the assignment MEDT_7461_IUP
I demonstrated understanding of the SLEI standard 10, in that an instructional unit plan was developed between 3 people, to create an instructional unit plan based on a needs assessment of a student’s school district. Based on the findings, a unit plan is developed using the ADDIE model, and it includes cooperation with school stakeholders to meet the school's needs. In completing my part of this assignment, I demonstrated understanding of the SLEI standard 10, in that collaboration was necessary to create a valuable program to address the shortcomings outlined in the assessment. Its beneficial value is constructive regarding the fulfillment of objectives being met. As standard 10 points out, a school librarian’s roles as manager, instructional leader, and advocate are essential to the success of a school library program, and an ongoing evaluation of one’s library is necessary to its potential areas of improvement. From my contribution to this assignment, I learned about the need for strategic planning in a school library and how the ultimate goal of student success can be realized with the help of a thorough plan for its continued success.
